TYPE 4: PALE

TYPE 5: TRAUMATIC

Type 4, Pale is the fourth sub type described and is the result of vascular disease leading to insufficient blood flow to the brain.  The treatment for this type is to optimize blood flow and vascular health.  This type overlaps with the inflammatory type as the decrease in blood flow causes a lot of inflammation in the brain. By definition, then, reducing inflammation is an integral part of treatment.

Type 5, Traumatic, is due to head injuries.  This is a unique form of dementia due to severe, acute, head trauma or due to chronic traumas such as those sustained in football or other sports.  The best  treatment for this type is prevention, stop the head trauma activities (stop football for example) and to optimize the underlying health of the brain.  Brain trauma, especially when associated with loss of consciousness increases the risk of Alzheimer’s disease substantially.
