TYPE 3: VILE (TOXIC)

Type 3, Vile, is the third sub type of cognitive impairment that Dr. Bredesen rocognized.  The type 3 sub type is a special case.  Type 3 is the result of exposure to toxins.  There are many common toxins, such as the heavy metals mercury and lead.  Another mineral toxin is copper.  Other common and widely recognized toxins are pesticides, glyphosate (Round Up), and organophosphates, pesticides used in farming and other industries.

A more recently identified toxin is the toxin from molds.  Molds create a toxin that is inhaled and when not able to be excreted from the body remains in the body leading to neuronal destruction.  The buildup of these toxins in the body can lead to the APP switch flipping to the breakdown mode. This makes the development of Alzheimer’s dementia an inhaled disorder.  Read about it here.

The unique treatment for this type of dementia is to identify the toxin and then remove it. In the case of mold toxins the first step is to remove yourself from the toxic exposure.  This can mean moving from your home or changing where you work as well as strategies to detoxify the body.  In the case of other toxins, treatments may be employed to remove the heavy metals or the organic toxins from the body.

Once the toxins are removed and some nutrients added to help the brain repair, the cognitive impairment will slow and then reverse.
